Rahul Dravid on Rishabh Pant: “Remains An Integral Part Of Our Batting Lineup”
Rishabh Pant is “definitely” going to be a part of Team India’s plans in the near future, according to Rahul Dravid, who dismissed worries over his performance.
After the Sunday series finale at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was called off owing to rain, the five-match T20I series between South Africa and India remained tied at 2-2. India was only given 3.3 overs to score, but they did so by doing so with a score of 28/2. After South Africa won the first two T20Is, Team India was able to mount a comeback and tie the series at two games each.
The last Twenty20 International was postponed due to rain. Team India head coach Rahul Dravid spoke to the media and discussed the performance of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Dinesh Karthik as well as the kind of cricket his team intended to play.
The 52-year-old responded to a question about Rishabh Pant’s captaincy by saying: “It was good. To bring a team from 0-2 to 2-2 with a chance to win the series is good. Captaincy is not just about wins and losses, you can’t do that. I think he is a young captain and he is growing and learning. It is too early to judge him, it is not something you want to do after one series or few games. He deserves praise for being able to cooperate with the group.
“Sometimes it is extremely difficult to judge on the basis of 2-3 games when you are in the middle overs and you are pushing people to play a bit more attacking type of cricket, seeking to take the game on. In terms of strike rate, I believed he (Pant) had a decent IPL. His averages may not have looked fantastic, but I believed he had a solid strike rate. He may make mistakes throughout that process. But gave his strength and what he is capable of, he still plays a crucial role in our hitting lineup. Although he would have preferred to score a few more runs, it is not particularly troubling that he has played some solid blows. He will undoubtedly be involved in our future plans in the coming months.
Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s performance was brought up, and Dravid responded: “Yeah, we are not going to make snap judgments on anybody; I do not like criticizing people after one series or one game. Every single guy who was given a chance here genuinely deserved it. They have earned it because there will be successful and unsuccessful games in this structure the game. Shreyas Iyer performed well for us and had a lot of intent on a few dicey wickets. Ruturaj showed his talent and caliber in just one inning. You may have weird games in 20-20 where your form and performance fluctuate a little. We were hoping to play a particular kind of cricket as a team, so we are not very unhappy with anyone, stated Dravid at a press conference.
“Right from the start, we wanted to play a bit aggressive and positive kind of cricket. Although it won’t always work out, we are certain of the type of cricket we want to play. As soon as possible, we’ll begin the process of forming the World Cup team. It is difficult to predict whether it will occur in the upcoming series or the one after that, but we do plan to do that as soon as we can “Added him.
Dinesh Karthik was discussed by Dravid, who said: “It was very pleasant to watch Dinesh Karthik take the stage and perform his assigned task. For us moving forward, it gives us a lot more possibilities. In an innings like that, I’ve been asking the guys to start banging the door down rather than knocking it; beating the door down is what’s important. And a performance like that undoubtedly indicates that Karthik is hitting the ball hard.”
