“Most people thought we were out of the game,” Wayne Parnell says of South Africa’s victory over India in the first Twenty20 International.
Wayne Parnell took one wicket in the first Twenty20 International against India, which South Africa won by three wickets.
In the first T20I against India, South Africa pulled off a heist, chasing down 212 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to grab a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Both teams would now face battle in the second T20I on Sunday, and pacer Wayne Parnell opened up about the attitude in the camp and how people had written South Africa off 10 overs into their chase in the first game during a press conference on Saturday.
“I believe the toss is significant in India. However, you must bat and bowl well in order to succeed. It was an unbelievable pursuit the other night in Delhi. Most people assumed we were out of the game after 10 overs, but we managed to hang in there and take it deep. We had two men play fantastic innings yesterday, and tomorrow will be no different; it will be difficult for us bowlers “During a press conference, Parnell stated.
“Yes, I believe that this match (2nd T20I) will be critical. India will undoubtedly recover. We don’t expect anything less from a quality team. Every game till Bengaluru, I believe, will be difficult. The other night, we had a terrific win, and we can draw a lot of confidence from that. However, because this is a brand-new venue with brand-new conditions, we must adjust and get off to a good start “He went on to say.
Aiden Markram tested positive for COVID-19 before the first Twenty20 International. Parnell, when asked for an update on the star batter, said: “I’m not sure when he’ll be available (Aiden Markram). He appears to be a good guy. I believe the doctors are better prepared to provide you with that information.”
When asked about the surface and how vital it is to keep players fresh, Parnell stated: “I believe that most of the wickets here favor run-scoring. But, yes, it’s all about what we’ll get on that particular day. You know, it did swing around a little bit, and we might be able to take advantage of that.”
