Umran Malik has identified the bowlers he idolized ahead of the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa.
Umran Malik drew a lot of attention during the just-concluded IPL 2022, taking 22 wickets in 14 games for SunRisers Hyderabad, including a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans. The bowler routinely bowled in the 150kmph bracket, with the second-fastest delivery of the season coming at 157kmph. The Jammu-born spinner has been chosen for India’s team for the forthcoming five-match series against South Africa, which begins on Wednesday at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Former Australia pacer Brett Lee remarked last week while speaking to news agency ANI. That Umran reminded him a little bit of Waqar Younis.

Umran, on the other hand, has indicated that his bowling idols are Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and SRH teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar, rather than the former Pakistan pacer.
“I haven’t kept up with Waqar Younis.” I move in a natural way. (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami, and Bhuvneshwar (Kumar) bhai are some of my inspirations. “When I was younger and moving up through the ranks, I used to follow them,” Umran told The Indian Express.
The bowler has also stated that he has not been overconfident after being chosen in the national squad and that his goal is to help India win all five T20Is against South Africa.
“It’s pointless to get carried away.” Inshallah, if it is meant to happen, it will. I want to do everything I can for my country. In these five (T20I) matchups, I have a chance (against South Africa). “My ambition is for us to win all five games, for me to perform well, and for India to win those games on my own,” the 22-year-old stated.
“First and foremost, I am deeply grateful for all of the love and respect that I have received from across India. It feels great to have relatives and other folks visit. After the IPL, I’ve been a little busy, but I haven’t missed any training or practice,” he continued.
Umran Malik has taken seven wickets in three first-class matches so far, while in T20s he has played 22 games and taken 33 wickets at an average of 21.72 with an economy of 8.83.
