South Africa Batter Leaves Ball; Costly Mistake in Decision-Making

Khaya Zondo was dismissed during South Africa’s scrimmage against the England Lions for attempting to leave a delivery outside the off-stump.

So South Africa is currently engaged in a warm-up game against the England Lions in preparation for their three-game Test series against England, which gets underway on August 17. After winning the toss in the four-day game, SouthAfrica opted to bat. So with a crucial 86-run hit at No 7, South Africa’s Khaya Zondo made a lasting impression. But he lost his job because of a catastrophic error in judgment. On the second day of the competition, Pacer Sam Cook threw the ball early and just outside off. Zondo made an effort to release the ball, but it kept coming in at an angle and hitting the off-stump.

Khaya Zondo attempts to escape the ball but is bowled.

Zondo scored 86 total points for South Africa. Rassie van der Dussen, who played nicely, finished with a 75.

Later, South Africa received a boost from 62-year-old Kyle Verreyne and 56-year-old Marco Jansen, who helped them earn a total of 433 points.

Craig Overton, meanwhile, finished with a 5/74 after claiming five wickets.

The England Lions had a 279/3 score at day’s end. Dan Lawrence was only 97 runs away from a century when Duanne Olivier called him out.

Harry Brook was unbeatable on 64.

So the World Test Championship standings will be heavily influenced by the three Test matches between South Africa and England. England is now ranked eighth, with South Africa currently holding the top spot.
