IPL Auction which took place in Bangalore was shocking for some players. Suresh Raina known as ‘Mr IPL’ was one of them since he remained unsold at the auction.
Raina was priced at the base price of INR 2 crore. No team bidded for Raina not even the Chennai Super Kings. He was not even on the listof players who are called for accelerated process at the end of second day IPL auction.
Suresh Raina retired from international cricket in 2020 just after MS Dhoni retired. He had a rough IPL 2021 season and was dropped at the end of the season and didn’t play any competitive and domestic cricket before the auction was a sign of a downfall.
CSK fans are shocked and upset as they won’t be able to see their ‘Chinna Thala’ anymore.
Raina has played total of 204 matches scoring 5,528 runs in the IPL and is 4th on the list of highest run scores in IPL.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath stated “Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, no to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team”.
CSK twitter handle played a tribute video for Suresh Raina.
