Jun 17 After the BCCI earned a “killing” at the media rights auction with a USD 6.2 billion contract, Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia believes that the IPL should now be hosted in two distinct halves with a significantly higher number of matches.
The biggest cricketing board, BCCI, amassed Rs 483,90 crore through the e-auction, about three times more than the previous cycle, by dividing the media rights into four bundles.

So, Why not consider two seasons, one in India and one in a new place every year, if you can’t have a long season lasting four months? There are Indians living all over the world. There is a great deal of room for more games Wadia stated.
Teams played 14 home and away games prior to the previous season when there were eight franchisees. The system was changed this year because there were 10 teams, however, each team still played 14 games.
“I’d say it’s already taking place. That will definitely occur at some point. The IPL has expanded, globalized, and revitalized cricket. It is only the tip of the iceberg, I assure you.
“The window should have gotten bigger years ago because the tournament has been going on for fifteen years. It’s way past due. It will take place. How long can the genie be kept inside the bottle.” When questioned about the possibility of viewer weariness as the IPL gets longer: “We’ll eventually need to take it into account as well. We can observe how leagues are managed globally from there, which is where the originality comes from. Currently, we are a long way from being exhausted.
