Prashant Solanki, a CSK youngster, commented on MSD role in an IPL 2022 match when he grabbed two wickets against Rajasthan Royals.
The Chennai Super Kings had a poor showing in the Indian Premier League 2022, finishing ninth. In IPL 2022, CSK won just four of their 14 games, finishing with the same number of points (8) as the bottom-placed Mumbai Indians, but with a slightly superior net run rate. The captaincy of the Chennai franchise was also a source of contention. MSD handed up the captaincy of CSK to Ravindra Jadeja just before the start of the competition. However, because of CSK’s dismal performance in IPL 2022, Jadeja turned up the captaincy to Dhoni in the middle of the season. The merry-go-round didn’t assist the team, but with Dhoni back at the helm, the team’s fortunes improved for a time.
That was only for a short time, as even Dhoni’s Midas touch couldn’t help CSK make the playoffs.
With CSK’s chances of making the playoffs all but nil, the squad opted to experiment with some fresh players. Prashant Solanki, a leg spinner, was one of them. The 22-year-old made his IPL debut against Gujarat Titans in CSK’s penultimate match of the season.
On his debut, the youngster made an impression. Despite not getting a wicket, Solanki only gave up 18 runs in his four overs.
Solanki was given another chance in CSK’s final match of the season against Rajasthan Royals when he gave up 20 runs in two overs but took two important wickets in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer.
MS Dhoni played a key role in the two wickets he took against Rajasthan Royals, according to the CSK youngster.
“Because we didn’t have a high total and he was changing the bowlers around in the second game, I came in a little late to bowl. My first pitch was smacked for a six. Then he (Dhoni) told me that I needed to cut my hair back and maintain it a little shorter. Allow him to play strokes on the bigger end of the spectrum. After that, I was successful.”
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Solanki stated.
“He (Hetmyer) hit me for a boundary, and Mahi Bhai told me to use the larger side of the ground once more. I delivered the top spinner on his legs, and he miscued it, resulting in dismissal at deep mid-wicket.”
Dhoni, who has led Chennai Super Kings to four IPL titles, gave a major update on his IPL future. MSD was asked about his future plans before the toss in the match against RR. In his unique flair, the former Indian cricket skipper stated that he will strive hard to return next season.
