“On Tuesday in Durham, I will play my final ODI cricket match for England. I’ve made the decision to stop using this format. Making this choice has been exceedingly difficult. “As difficult a choice as this was to make, accepting the truth that I can no longer give my teammates my all in this format is easier. Nobody should wear the England jersey any less honorably. Three forms are simply no longer manageable for me. Because of the schedule and the demands placed upon us, I feel as though not only is my body failing me, but I am also depriving Jos and the rest of the squad of a player who can give their best. It’s time for another cricketer to develop and create unforgettable memories, as I have over the past 11 years, “Added he.
Stokes added in his statement: “I will give Test cricket everything I have, and now that I’ve made this choice, I feel like I can also offer the T20 format my full dedication. I want to wish future success to Jos Buttler, Matthew Mott, the players, and the support staff. Over the past seven years, white-ball cricket has advanced significantly, and the future is promising.
“I’ve enjoyed every one of the 104 games I’ve played so far. I still have one left, and it feels incredible to be playing it at my home stadium in Durham. The England supporters have always supported me and will do so in the future. The world’s best fans are you. I hope we can defeat South Africa on Tuesday and take a good early lead in the series “Added him.
Stokes has participated in 104 One Day Internationals for England, amassing 2,919 runs at a 39.44 average. The all-rounder was the standout in the 2019 World Cup final, playing an undefeated 84 against New Zealand in the head-to-head match. Stokes was selected as the game’s MVP.
Stokes has scored 2919 runs, including three centuries, and claimed 74 wickets since making his ODI debut against Ireland in 2011. He has been an inspiring skipper and led the ODI team to a 3-0 triumph over Pakistan in the Royal London Series last summer.
So Stokes has always performed at his best in games under duress and is currently the captain of the England Test team. So his team led England to a 3-0 Test series victory over New Zealand and a Three Lions victory over India in the Edgbaston Test.
Eoin Morgan, the captain of the 2019 World Cup-winning team, also announced his retirement from international cricket in June.
